Weeks of 4/29 and 5/6: -Daily Warm ups section VII/IX -Music theory- Major vs. minor chords/intervals -Polishing concert music by working on details such as: dynamics, bowing, intonation, tone quality, ensemble skills -Playing test assigned 4/29, due 6/10
Weeks of 4/15 and 4/22: -Scales by memory- FM, EbM, AM -Finish rhythm sheet #16 -Daily Warm ups section IV and V- articulations and shifting -Theory- Major/minor intervals and chords- aural identification -Full play-throughs of all concert songs, beginning to incorporate use of correct dynamics, bowings, and other musical elements -Finish up composition projects and perform these in class
Weeks of 4/1 and 4/8: -Scales already known- by memory -Daily Warm ups section III- finger patterns and how to know which to use -Rhythm work -Composition project- almost complete, prepare to perform for class -By end of 2 weeks, play through music with 80% note and rhythmic accuracy, touching on detailed elements when appropriate
Weeks of 2/19 and 2/25: -G and D minor scales -Mixed meter work in EE book -Continued vibrato and tonal development -Preparing Orchestra Night music and working toward understanding of Orchestra Night Procedures/rehearsals - rhythmic accuracy - note accuracy- understanding what the pitches SHOULD be for music - understanding how one part fits in within the whole piece - dynamics - playing through
Weeks of 1/6 and 1/14 -Scales- EbM, Dm, Gm (minor scales learned and reinforced through EE book 2 pg. 28 and 29) -Preparing Orchestra Night music and working toward understanding or Orchestra Night Procedures/rehearsals - rhythmic accuracy - note accuracy- understanding what the pitches SHOULD be for music - understanding how one part fits in within the whole piece - dynamics - playing through *Playing Test Due 1/21- recorded at home*
Winter Break -Our focus is primarily our pieces for Orchestra Night- Kashmir and Academic Festival Overture -Use rhythm or bow patterns in these pieces to practice scales- (especially Eb Major) this will actually help with the music too! -Kashmir- rhythms in the violins, practice playing through with cuts -Academic Festival Overture- work slowly to gain confidence with notes and rhythms, then adding dynamics, style, and expressivity
Weeks of 12/10 and 12/17 -Review and reinforce playing an Eb Major scale -Learn to read in the key of D minor using EE book -Demonstrate knowledge of how to identify Major Key signatures- Quiz on Friday, Dec. 13 -Continue chamber group work- perform for the class -Basic understanding of notes/rhythms/style for both Orchestra Night Pieces
Weeks of 11/26 and 12/3 -Understand and demonstrate Bb Major scale in 1 octave -Begin learning 1 octave Eb Major scale- key signature and finger patterns on each string -Play in 6/8 time using EE book -Demonstrate playing in 6/8 time and differentiating between slurred bows and hooked bows- playing check of May Time on Dec. 5 -Learn a short chamber music piece mostly independently of the teacher -Introduction to Orchestra Night Music
Weeks of 10/29 and 11/5 -Continue to work on tone production through the use of scale warm ups and dynamics exercises -Reinforce the key signatures of F and Bb Major through our Essential Elements book -Review and work toward memorization of the order of Sharps and Flats in key signatures -Rehearse repertoire and prepare for concert as needed- depends on what is demonstrated in each rehearsal. Some musical elements worked on will be: tone, bowing, intonation, dynamics, rhythm, clarity, bow style
Weeks of 10/15 and 10/22 -Using scales to build listening skills and bow distribution skills, as well as tone production -Learning Bb Major scale during wk. 8 -Essential Elements book- 16th note rhythms- dotted notes -Developing concert music, working on skills such as: bowing, intonation, tempo, dynamics, articulation
Weeks of 10/1 and 10/8 -Intonation and confident playing of F Major and D minor scales -Reviewing knowledge of how to find the interval between two notes -Counting and playing 16th note rhythms using Essential Elements book 2 -Night Shift- smooth, in tune shifts to 3rd position -Biscayne bay- in tune notes, smooth bow and flow to the sound, start incorporating vibrato -Archaic voices- playing in D minor, staccato style, bowing, counting ***A playing test on Archaic Voices will be assigned in class on 10/10. Due 10/17. Students may record at home before due date or play in class on due date.***
Weeks of 9/17 and 9/24 -Proper demonstration of AM, CM, FM scales during warm up *A Major scale playing check 9/24 in class- worth 10 points, done in a group -Demonstrating proper classroom procedures and engaging in the lesson -Demonstrating knowledge of eighth note and dotted eighth note rhythms through performance and counting -Demonstrating proper posture while playing during individual practice and as a group -Demonstrating shift to third position/notes in third position on the A string -Developing a familiarity to new music (start with notes and rhythms)
