Week of 4/15 and 4/22: -D and G scale practice/reinforcing notes -Staccato vs. legato bow technique -Basic rhythm counting -Work toward concert song play-throughs, including teacher intros
Week of 4/1 and 4/8: - G Major Scale -Work on bow technique with various exerises -Frere Jacques, together and in a round -Introduce Allegro
Week of 2/19 and 2/25: -D Major Scale -Twinkle -New vocabulary: pizzicato, arco, tempo, intonation
Week of 1/6 and 1/14: -New notes- A and B -Practice note reading skills -Reinforcing correct posture while playing -Bile 'em Cabbage- theme and variation (run pony) -Ode to Joy- partially learn by music reading, partially by ear -Terminology- tempo, pizzicato, arco, measure, sharp
Winter Break: -Practice steps to good posture and bow hold (could do bow exercises at home) -Work toward making a good sound with the bow on the strings (aim for a "+" sign) -Practice your songs- Monkey Song, Bile 'em Cabbage, Ode to Joy -Play for your family or friends!
Weeks of December 10 and 17: -Continue developing posture -Bow hand coordination -Knowledge of notes D, E, F#, G -Monkey Song -Bile 'em Cabbage
Weeks of November 26 and December 3: -Continue developing left and right hand posture -Begin using the bow on the strings- straight bow strokes -Learn Hot Cross Buns and Monkey Song, pizzicato first -Perform sticker chart songs
Weeks of October 29 and November 5: -Continue learning care and maintenance of instrument -Develop Left and Right hand posture separately (putting fingers down on strings, developing bow hold) -Reviewing parts of the instrument and names of the strings
Weeks of October 15 and 22: -Learn how to unpack/pack up the instrument -Learn parts of the instrument and the string names -Begin working on correct playing posture using our "step" system -Learn about how to care for the instrument -Ants song to reinforce string names
Week of October 8: -We are in the process of sorting students into their new Instrumental Music rotations. Instrument choices have been made official, and we will begin learning how to care for our new instruments! -Each class discussed that instruments will be ready to go home when Ms. Chappell feels the student knows enough about the instrument and is responsible enough to care for the instrument at home. This usually takes 2-3 weeks and an email will be sent home to families.
